ROCK the CURE
FAMILY 5K Walk

Team Ridge Pointe, a Rockwall 3-day breast cancer walk team, announces the Second Annual Rock the Cure Family 5K walk. The walk will take place at Rockwall’s Harry Meyers Park, 815 E. Washington St. on Saturday, October 18th. Registration begins at 7 A.M. with the walk starting at 8 A.M. The month of October is “Breast Cancer Awareness” month and Team Ridge Pointe’s goal is to create more public awareness and knowledge of the breast cancer disease in the Rockwall community. It is an opportunity for many who have been touched in some way by breast cancer to come and show their support to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or to honor a friend or loved one. Snacks, water, and a token gift will be available for participants.

Team Ridge Pointe was formed three years ago at Ridge Pointe Athletic Club. The team trained and walked their first Dallas/Ft. Worth, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-day walk in 2006. The team has now grown to a group of 15 dedicated ladies from the Rockwall area who shares together the goals of: training and participating in the annual D/FW 3-day 60 mile walk; the challenge of fundraising to qualify; and most importantly, the hope of a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime. The 3-day event takes place on November 7-9, 2008 and each member has committed to raising the required $2,200 to walk. All proceeds support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation through research, education, and community health programs.

Team Ridge Pointe is passionate about their desire to create more awareness of the breast cancer health threat and in helping more women survive this deadly disease. The 2007 Breast Cancer 3-day series took place in 12 cities nationwide and raised more than $86 million through donations, contributions, and sponsorships. The 2008 3-day walk team members are: Debra Amerson, Monika Amick, Lorraine Borman, Cindy Brodnax, Vickie Daniels, Elizabeth Hollman, Sheri Leeuw, Sue Lowrey, Sheri Martin, Lynne Minter, Barbara Owens, Kathleen Pampillonia, Mary South, Catherine Sims, and Joyce Zmolik.
